Performance Improvement
Behavioral Health Division/Grant Street Partnership
Problem Statement
- Group material is not organized into a specific theme.
- Clients report groups are often boring and redundant, while
lacking in continuity.
- Boundaries and differentiation between psychoeducational
and psychotherapy groups are often confused and unclear.
- Staff reports decrease in motivation when facilitating groups
due to lack of material that is both innovative and cohesive.
Design
- Create a central file that incorporates all group material to be
used for a six to eight week period.
- Implement planned group curricula for both day and evening
groups utilizing a time limited theme that will be repeated at six to
eight week intervals.
- Provide different curricula for day and evening program,
ensuring there is no overlap between programs to minimize potential for
redundancy.
- Design group curricula that clearly
differentiates between psychoeducational
material and psychotherapy protocol.
Measure –
Pre and Post
- Baseline data collection vis
a vis a survey (S1) administered to clients
prior to implementation of new group curricula. Post implementation data will also be
collected via administration of same survey.
- Staff satisfaction will also be measured via a survey
specifically designed for staff.
Assess
- 4/1/04 – 5/1/04: Post data collection, follow-up survey
(S1) will be administered randomly throughout month to both day and
evening clients to determine clients’ level of satisfaction with newly
implemented group format. Staff
satisfaction will be assessed via survey with feedback given during
weekly supervision.
- 5/1/04 – 6/1/04: Monthly surveys
given to both clients (S1) and staff (S2) to determine ongoing level of
satisfaction. Additions and/or
changes will be made to curricula in accordance with results of survey
and feedback by clients and staff.
- 6/1/04 - 8/1/04: Administration of
client and staff satisfaction surveys will continue every two months.
Additions and/or changes will be made to curricula in accordance with
results of survey and feedback by clients and staff.
- 8/1/04-10/1/04: Continued administration of surveys (S1,
S2). Feedback will be processed
during supervision and changes made accordingly.
- 10/1/04 – 12/1/04:
Ongoing collection of feedback via surveys.
- 12/1/04 – 2/1/05: Ongoing
administration of surveys.
- 2/1/04 – 4/1/05 : Ongoing administration of surveys.
Improve
- Clinicians and case managers will utilize time more efficiently
as topics and curricula for group are prepared in advance.
- Staff motivation regarding group facilitation will increase due
to access to psychoeducational and
psychotherapeutic group material that is creative and organized.
- Staff absences will be less problematic, as materials are
available in central file, thereby allowing alternate staff to run group
and maintain consistency with presentation of group curricula.
- Client’s motivation for group will increase, secondary to
improvement in group curricula that offers material that is relevant to
their needs during the PHP and IOP phases of treatment.
- Provision of GSP group information to auditors will be
facilitated, as evidenced by a centralized file containing revised group
material.
