Health Center Plans 35th Anniversary Event

The Hill Health Center today announced the formation of a committee to plan its 35th anniversary celebration - a sixties dance with the theme, Ain't no mountain high enough.

The planning committee comprises board, staff and community volunteers.

The members are: Dr. Gwendolyn Testa, Daniel Diaz,  Toni Harp, Louis Kaplan, Robert Kilpatrick, Dr. Karin Michels, Maria Damiani, Arlyne R. Dildy, Andrea Jackson-Brooks, Lewis Kaufman, Paul A. Kowalski, Nancy Navarretta,  Charles B. Rose, Gary Smart, Cornell Scott, Gary Spinner, Leah Berliner, Edward H. Cantor, Susan Campion and Mildred Castro.

"Since 1968, three generations of families have made more than 2.2 million visits to Hill Health for medical, dental and behavioral health services… an amazing feat to say the least and something we, as a community, should be proud of," said Cornell Scott, chief executive officer.

"To celebrate this achievement, we’ve decided to pull out all the stops and dance the night away on May 8.. When we opened the doors on Columbus Avenue with Mayor Lee and Kingman Brewster in 1968, it was a decade of social turmoil as well as unforgettable music.   We are proud to have come so far and served so many," he said.

The goal of this event is to raise capital funds to undertake the necessary building improvements on aging facilities that regular grant sources and funding opportunities will not address.

Hill Health is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and has received state and national recognition of its work.  Its 25,000 patients are predominately low income and uninsured families in the New Haven area.
